Eight years ago, I began researching the Kitty League, primarily going to
the local newspapers on microfilm for information. A lot can
be taken from them, but the players themselves hold the best
memories of what it was like to play ball in the league.
I was fortunate enough to find a few players, all of whom were more than
willing to discuss their glory days in the minor leagues. I
thought it would be great to bring as many of them together
as possible for a reunion to celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the Kitty League in 2003.
I've had the privilege of organizing two reunions and meeting the players
whom I had only known in 50-year-old box scores and
newspaper clippings. It was a lot of fun seeing these guys
reminisce about the good ol' days of the Kitty League.
