The manager of Jacque Riedel's
softball team recommended him to Cleveland Indians scout Laddie
Placek, who signed him to a professional baseball contract in 1948.
Riedel
played right field for the Union City Greyhounds and was named to
the Kitty League All-Star team. He finished second in the league
with 16 triples playing in spacious Turner Field.
