Tom Posenal came to the Kitty League from the sandlots of
Cleveland, Ohio in 1937. He was signed to a professional
contract by Cleveland Indians scout Laddie Placek and sent
to Owensboro, Kentucky, where the Indians had a working
agreement with the Kitty League club. "From my mom's
recollection, he was 19 (and) it was his first time away from home
and he was a nervous-type of guy," explained his nephew, Bruce
J. Bender. Posenal returned home to Cleveland and went to work for
Magic Chef Stoves. After it closed, he was employed at Leece-Neville
from which he eventually retired. "He was a bachelor all his
life," recalled his nephew, "and (he) played fast pitch
softball, basketball, bowled (with an average around 180) and golfed
(with a handicap of 2)."
